I never realized that the first discussions of a new form of media began in the 1800's. It is amazing that a man like Richard Wagner can have an idea that is so far ahead of its time. His mind was speculating 100 years into the future. In the 1800's, Wagner didn't have the technology to pull of the integration of the arts that would capture the entire range of human experience. He tried with his operas but they couldn't have possibly had the totalizing effect that new media has today. How could someone have an idea so far ahead of their time?
